When is a sheep suitable for Eid al-Adha?
To perform a valid sacrifice during Eid al-Adha, clear Islamic conditions apply. The animal to be sacrificed must be healthy, free from visible defects, and have reached the minimum age. At Eidschaap, this process is taken extremely seriously, ensuring that every customer receives an animal that meets these requirements.
Our rams are at least six months old – the generally accepted minimum age for sacrifice. Selection is made with care and attention. Among other things, we look for:
- Intact ears, eyes, and horns
- Absence of visible injuries or abnormalities
- No signs of illness or weakness
- No lameness or impediment in movement
Animals that do not meet these criteria are excluded from the sacrifice process. This is not a minor detail, but a religious necessity. The sacrifice is an act of worship – and that begins with an animal that fully meets the conditions set by Islam.
By carefully selecting, we guarantee that every Eid sheep offered is not only physically suitable but also a valid contribution to the Eid al-Adha as intended.
